Eduardo Baca

Beginning December 21, 2022, he is Consul of Mexico in Salt Lake City, covering the state of Utah as well as the western part of Wyoming. With a diplomatic career spanning more than 30 years, Consul Baca has ample experience in North America and Latin America, among other areas.

Before coming to Utah, he was Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Mexico in Kuwait. From 2016 to 2018, he was Special Advisor to the Institute for Mexicans Abroad in Mexico’s Foreign Ministry. He was also Consul of Mexico in Seattle, from 2013 to 2016, covering the states of Washington and Alaska, as well as part of Idaho. From 2011 to 2013, he was Director General (Deputy Assistant Secretary) for North America at the Foreign Ministry.

In Latin America, he has been posted as Deputy Head of Mission in the Embassies of Mexico in Venezuela (2008-2010) and Trinidad and Tobago (2006-2007). Consul Baca was also an Adviser to the Minister for North American affairs (2003-2005) and Chief of Staff to the Deputy Secretary for Human Rights and Democracy (2002-2003). From 1998 to 2002, he was posted to the Embassy of Mexico in the US (in charge of special bilateral issues) and, previously, from 1997 to 1998, in the Embassy in Canada (political and protocol issues).

Consul Baca holds a degree in International Relations and has studied in the U.S. political system and the international human rights system. He has attended various graduate courses in trade negotiations, national security, consular affairs, and promotion. He has also lectured on Mexico-US relations, as well as the bilateral relation with Canada and the North American agenda, in educational institutions in Mexico and the US.
